This is the
original Crow River Finnish Apostolic Church built in
1886. It has a unique interior of embossed tin sheets in
6 different patterns. The outside is also covered in tin
sheets. The pews are handmade from white pine. The back
pew, which faces the back of the church, was near the
warmth of the wood stove to allow mothers and children to
sit there. The Authentic 1895 pump organ was gifted to
the church by Nels Reisanan. It is still played
occasionally for special services and weddings. In 1912
the minister of this church took a trip to Finland with
his wife and daughter. The daughter died while in Finland
and on their trip back they sailed on the “Titanic” and
unfortunately they were among the 1,517 to parish.
Because of its unusual structure the move from its
original site in French Lake to this current location in
1975 proved to be very difficult. This church is still
used in the summers for small wedding ceremonies and is
available for rent.
