Known as
Ada's Millinery, this building is typical of the shops
found in small and large towns. In earlier years,
women were never in public places without a hat or
bonnet. It was very important item of dress and hat
making was an elegant professi
on.
The
shopkeeper may also have been a seamstress, using a
treadle machine and pattern forms like these.
On the
full-length mannequin is a 1906 hand sewn graduation
dress worn by Lotus Williams, a first year Annandale
student, graduating with a class of seniors from the high
school.
