This caboose
was built in 1886; the same year rail service came to
Annandale. The Soo Line donated this “home on wheels”
which has been maintained in its original condition; with
a flat-topped coal stove, an icebox, water cooler, tin
sink and tiny storage closet. When the train
whistle blew, the children ran to stand by the tracks and
wave to the men high up in the window of the caboose.
Because of modern electronic technology trains no
longer are required to pull a caboose with
“switchmen”.
